Situated in Southern Asia on the Bay of Bengal , it is bordered almost entirely by India, with a small southeastern border with Myanmar.
The country is largely a fertile deltaic plain formed by the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers.
Originally part of British India, it became "East Pakistan" in 1947. Following independence, it established a unitary parliamentary republic based on the Westminster system.
