While investigating the area, Rengoku encounters a demon known as the "Slasher" who has been terrorizing the town and railway. Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that Rengoku’s father, Shinjuro, had saved the grandmother years prior, adding depth to the Rengoku family's legacy.
