Suddenly, the music screeched to a halt. The steam cleared, dissolving back into the sterile grey walls of the interrogation room.
When she opened them, the cold grey room was gone. She was no longer wearing her drab, oversized wool cardigan. Instead, she was dressed in a pristine, tailored 1940s trench coat. Susan looked at the detective, her eyes glazed but fiercely determined. She straightened her cardigan and folded her hands neatly on the table. Suddenly, the music screeched to a halt
The word murder hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. Susan felt the walls of the room closing in. The grey paint seemed to bleed away, and the buzzing light grew deafening. She closed her eyes. She was no longer wearing her drab, oversized wool cardigan
The interrogation room was painted a color that could only be described as municipal despair. A flickering fluorescent light hummed at a frequency that vibrated right at the base of Susan’s skull. Across the metal table sat Detective Lancing, tapping a plastic ballpoint pen against her notepad.
"Let them think what they want," he replied, pulling her close as the steam from a arriving locomotive swirled around them. "In this world, we are the heroes. We saved each other. That's the only truth that matters."
